Councilwoman Tency A. Eason is a native of North Carolina. She is a member of St. Matthew A.M.E. Church, Orange, NJ
Councilwoman Eason is currently the Vice President of the Orange City Council. Councilwoman Tency A. Eason has been a member of the City Council for the City of Orange Township since 2002 and is currently serving her fifth term. She has served three terms as City Council President and three terms as Vice President. Councilwoman Eason is a graduate of Caldwell University with a degree in Business Administration and has also received a Certification in Government Relations from Rutgers University.
Councilwoman Eason is a persistent advocate for a better Education for our children, a voice for our seniors and our youth. She has sponsored numerous legislations to improve the quality of life for the Orange Community. Her passion is to help people by any means possible.
Councilwoman Eason worked for Verizon and AT&T for 34 years, where she began her career in Operator Services and retired as a Product Manager in Marketing. One of her greatest professional accomplishments was the implementation of the KidsCall Program. The program provided runaway teens the opportunity to call home and granted them access to agencies to help them unite with their families. Also, worked collaborative with Port Authority to open the first Travelers Aid Program at Newark Airport using retired volunteers from Verizon which is still in existence today. Councilwoman Eason is currently employed by the East Orange School District. She is also the President of the St. Matthew A.M.E. Flower Ministry, a member of the St. Matthew A.M.E. Finance Committee, a St. Matthew A.M.E. Trustee, a St. Matthew A.M.E. Orators Coach, a member of the St. Matthew A.M.E. Angenetta Jackson Missionary Society, a member of the Orange Planning Board, a liaison to the City of Orange ABC Board, a member of the New Jersey League of Municipalities, member of Second Joint River, Member of the Interfaith Action Movement (IAM), Treasurer of The Big “O” Booster Club and a member of the Orange Democratic Committee.
Councilwoman Eason has previously served as President of the Orange PTA/PTO District Officers Council, President and Vice President of the Cleveland Street PTO, a Unit Commissioner for the Orange Hills District Boy Scouts of America, Chairperson of the ABC, Council Liaison to the ABC Board, Council Liaison to the Orange Police Department, and
Chairwoman of the Planning Board, and an elected official of the Orange Democratic Committee.
Councilwoman Eason is a widower, has two sons, which she raised in Orange, two daughters-in-laws, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Councilwoman Eason has received numerous awards for her service to the people. She was awarded the Women of Excellence Award for the State of New Jersey in 2018.
