Dear Residents and Business Owners:

The City of Orange Township continues to monitor the spread of the Coronavirus and COVID-19 throughout our State. As Mayor, I have a responsibility to do everything possible to slow the spread of this serious virus and protect our families. According to our Health Department, as of today, we have one confirmed case of the Coronavirus.

As you are aware, Governor Murphy declared a State of Emergency, and Public Health Emergency to strengthen state preparedness to contain the spread of COVID-19. In line with the Governor’s declaration, we are taking the following actions:

Effective immediately: (1) all public buildings in Orange will be closed to the public. This includes City Hall, The Orange Police Station and Municipal Court, the Central Firehouse, the Public Library and the Brook Alley Public Works facility and City Parks.  City services and your payment obligations will remain in effect. Together, we can undertake measures to keep our loved ones, our friends, our residents, our employees and our community safe. But this unprecedented public health emergency requires unprecedented actions and measures to ensure our collective good health.

Older people and people with severe chronic conditions must take special precautions because they are at higher risk of developing serious illnesses. They must limit travel and should not attend large gatherings unless it is absolutely essential.

Businesses and employers should actively encourage all employees to stay home when sick, perform hand hygiene, and cover coughs and sneezes. Businesses should review their emergency operations plan, including identification of essential business functions, teleworking and flexible sick leave policies.

Community and faith-based organizations should review existing emergency operations plans, including strategies for social distancing and avoiding large gatherings. Community-based organizations should take steps to protect both the clients they serve and their employees.

Let’s reduce the spread of rumors. Tell people that viruses cannot target people from specific populations, ethnicities, or racial backgrounds.

Anyone who attempts to take advantage of residents during this crisis by hiking up the price of goods or services will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Finally, I ask that we all check in on our neighbors, especially our senior citizens and anyone else with a chronic health condition in a safe and secure manner. For more information, please check the City of Orange Township website at www.ci.orange.nj.us. Please stay safe during this challenging time.

Yours in Service

Mayor Dwayne D. Warren, Esq.
