This is an important message from the City of Orange Township concerning the coronavirus pandemic.

The city has been closely monitoring the rapidly changing situation around the Coronavirus outbreak. Mayor Dwayne Warren is actively managing the situation in concert with local, state and federal health officials, and advising common-sense measures such as hand washing and what to do if people are feeling sick as an initial response to expressed public desire for guidance. At this time, there have been no reported cases of the coronavirus in Orange.

In an effort to protect residents and city employees, Mayor Warren is closing City Hall tomorrow, Friday March 13, so that municipal offices can be throughly cleaned as a proactive measure to contain the spread of the virus. City Hall will be open for business on Monday morning, March 16.

Mayor Warren asks that older people and people with severe chronic conditions take special precautions because they are at higher risk of developing serious  illnesses. They should limit travel and should not attend large gatherings unless it is essential.

Businesses and employers should actively encourage all employees to stay home when sick, perform hand hygiene, and cover coughs and sneezes. Businesses should review their emergency operations plan, including identification of essential business functions, teleworking and flexible sick leave policies.

Community- and faith-based organizations should review existing emergency operations plans, including strategies for social distancing and modifying large gatherings. Community-based organizations should take steps to protect both the clients they serve and their employees.

Help reduce the spread of rumors. Let people know that viruses cannot target people from specific populations, ethnicities, or racial backgrounds. Being of Asian descent does not increase the chance of getting or spreading the virus.

Finally, Mayor Warren asks that we all check in on our neighbors, especially our senior citizens and anyone else with a chronic health condition.

Please stay safe during this challenging time.
