Joyce L. Lanier is the City Clerk for the City Council of the City of Orange Township and has held the position since May 2015. Lanier is a graduate of Rutgers University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Finance and a Master’s in Public Administration. Lanier is also the Secretary of the Orange Historic Preservation Commission, a member of the Essex County Mental Health Advisory Board, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and played a vital role in the Newark’s 350 Anniversary Celebration in 2017.
Prior to her role as City Clerk, Lanier work for the Newark City Clerk’s office for 17 years. She was the sole manager of the Open Public Records Act office (OPRA), Archives and Management Center (ARMC), Police Records Bureau as well as Special Events/Conference Planner for the City Council/Clerk’s Office. Prior to Joyce’s employment as a public servant, she worked over 10 years in private sector with corporations such as Bristol-Myers Squibb Pharmaceutical, Wright Line Inc. and Information Resources Inc. in a variety of capacities from Sales Training, Meeting Planner, Project Manager and Account Executive. Through her dedication to the community, Joyce continues to make many improvements to the City of Orange by growing and implementing city programs to benefit its residents.
