_

This is Mayor Dwayne Warren with a coronavirus update.

.
I hope you had a Blessed Palm Sunday.  I have received late information that we now have 5 confirmed deaths due to the coronavirus.  We now have 227 confirm cases of persons from Orange testing positive for coronavirus.
.
We also have 16 cases of people recovering from the virus.
.
As my Administration works to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak, I want to take a moment to send greetings to our Orange faith communities as they adjust to celebrating various holidays including Passover, Easter, and Ramadan by alternate means due to the Governor’s ban on social gatherings.  I can’t emphasize enough that staying home and maintaining 6-feet social distancing in public is safest for us all.
.
The Center for Disease Control is advising the use of simple cloth face masks to slow the spread of the virus.  These cloth face masks,  made from household materials, made at home, can be used as an additional, voluntary public health measure.
.
I will continue to conduct wellness checks both on foot and in patrol vehicles to receive concerns such as price gouging and apartment building sanitizing practices, and address them without people having to leave their homes.  Additionally, this week, the 4 mayors (Newark, East Orange, Irvington and Orange) will convene again to assess the lockdown measures we imposed – and may announce further actions if necessary.

As always if you need food assistance please call 973 280 1621.

Be well, God Bless you – and God Bless the City of Orange Township.
