City of Orange Township launches K-9 Unit

The Orange Police Department introduces its new canine unit at the Orange Police Department on at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 15.

The K-9 will be a German Shepard, purchased from Tarheel Canine in North Carolina The dog will serve multiple purposes: specializing in narcotics, tracing for articles and handler protection. The training will begin on February 17 and will be conducted by the Voorhees Police Department, through its ties to the New Jersey Police Officers K-9 Association. The graduation date will be around June 5.

“The new K-9 Unit will be an important part of our law enforcement efforts in The City of Orange Township”, Mayor Dwayne D. Warren said. “A dog can search an area faster and more thoroughly than an officer can. A K-9 team can do area searches to locate evidence. The dog can enter a building without putting our officers at risk. We look forward to deploying our new K-9 unit.”
