Learn How to Avoid Heat-related Illnesses
HEAT EXHAUSTION
Symptoms:
- Faint or dizzy
- Excessive sweating
- Cool, pale, clammy skin
- Nausea or vomiting
- Rapid, weak pulse
- Muscle cramps
What to do:
- Get to a cooler, air conditioned place
- Drink water if fully conscious
- Take a cool shower or use cold compresses
HEAT STROKE
Symptoms:
- Throbbing headache
- No sweating
- Body temperature above 103° – Red, hot, dry skin
- Nausea or vomiting
- Rapid, strong pulse
- May lose consciousness
What to do:
- CALL 911
- Take immediate action to cool the person until help arrives

Safety Tips
- NEVER leave your child or pet unattended in a car (even with the windows down).
- ALWAYS make sure all children (and pets) have left the car. Never leave a sleeping infant in the car.
