Main Street Redevelopment Ordinance & more

On March 4, the Orange City Council moved to adopt the Main Street Redevelopment Ordinance.  The final adoption was by Councilwoman Donna K. Williams, and Seconded by Councilman Harold Johnson, Jr.  and passed unanimously with a vote of yes with the exception of Councilman Christopher Jackson who was absent.  The Main Street Redevelopment plan seeks to create a transit-oriented development on either side of Main Street while encouraging development to serve a 24/7 living district where people can work, play and live.  The Main Street Development will call for uniformity in design with a more updated look for establishments located within the Main Street area.    In addition, on Main Street public art, fine dining and upscale clothing stores will be added.  “The passage of the Main Street Redevelopment plan will allow us to go in and do some new and exciting things,” said Councilwoman Donna K. Williams.

In other business, the Council also moved to adopt the Municipal Open Space, Recreation and Historic Trust, the final adoption was by Councilwoman Donna K. Williams, and Seconded by Councilman Harold Johnson Jr.  The rest of the present Council Members all motioned in favor as well.  The Municipal Open Space, Recreation and Historic Trust fund will address the insufficient funding for all city parks, open spaces, and historic spaces.  For Orange residents this will lead to an overall healthier and a more beautiful city.  “These are both monumental pieces of legislation and with the passing of these legislations we should see tremendous improvement on both Main Street and our open spaces around the city.”  said Councilwoman Donna K. Williams.

Other breaking legislation was an ordinance requiring security cameras in senior home buildings which was sponsored by Councilwoman Tency A. Eason and Kerry J. Coley and was approved by all Council Members present with the final reading scheduled for Tuesday April 2, 2019.
